LEANDER W. EMERSON
January 18, 1850 – March 2, 1917

Leander Emerson was born in January 18, 1850 in Indiana, the son of Sylvester and Emily King Emerson.

The family moved from Indiana to LeRoy, Dodge County, Wisconsin in 1854. His father Sylvester died in 1867 while in service (Civil War), leaving three small children, Leander, Clara and Nettie. His mother remarried to Robert McLean in 1867 in Dodge County, Wisconsin.

Leander married Matilda McLain, the daughter of James and Catherine Hamilton McLain. Five children were born to this union, Edith, Nettie, Sylvester, Edna and Robert.

Leander's five children received their education at a little country schoolhouse known as the Smith School located two miles east of Little Cedar and a half mile south of their family farm house.

Leander passed away on March 2, 1917 and Matilda passed away on September 19, 1917. Burial was in the Liberty Township Cemetery, east of Little Cedar.

Survivors include 3 daughters ; Mrs. Hugh (Edith) Babcock; Mrs. Albert (Nettie) McPhail; Mrs. Reed (Edna) McPhail; and two sons; Sylvester and Robert Emerson.
