OSAGE, IOWA - Katherine Garrett (Allen) Burns Quintin, 93, of Osage, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

A gathering of family and friends for the celebration of Katherine's life will be held on Saturday, July 28, from 9-11 a.m., with a service at 10 a.m., at the home of Christine and Dennis Fannin, 803 Pleasant St., Osage.

Graveside services were held Monday, July 2, at the Strongsville Cemetery in Strongsville, Ohio.

Katherine Garrett (Allen) Burns Quintin, age 93, of Osage, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

A gathering of family and friends for the celebration of Katherine’s life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a service at 10:00 a.m., at the home of Christine and Dennis Fannin, 803 Pleasant Street, Osage.

Graveside services were held Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Strongsville Cemetery in Strongsville, Ohio.

Katherine was born August 18, 1918, at North Royalton, Ohio, the daughter of Robert O. and Catherine (Hansen) Allen. She graduated from North Royalton High School in 1937. Katherine was employed by the United States Government during World War II, working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

On January 3, 1945, she married Merrill O. Burns, Sr. in Cleveland, Ohio. Katherine also worked as a secretary at Ernst and Ernst Accounting Firm, and later in life worked at Baxter Laboratories in Mountain Home, Arkansas, retiring in 1983.

She married Zephir R. Quintin on May 24, 1975, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Katherine was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and attended the United Church of Christ in Osage. She enjoyed her affiliation with the Osage Senior Center. Katherine also enjoyed dancing to many of the Big Bands during the 1940’s, knitting, crocheting, shopping, watching baseball and most of all spending time with family and friends. She loved a good time, a good card game and had a great sense of humor.

Survivors include her son, Merrill (Shelley) Burns of San Francisco, California, and children, Colin Burns of Greenville, North Carolina, Duncan (Natasha) Burns of Inverell, NSW, Australia, Graham (Erika) Burns of Honolulu, Hawaii; her daughter, Christine (Dennis) Fannin of Osage, and children, Micah (Karen) Fannin of Conway, Arkansas, Christian J. Fannin of Chicago, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Nate Burns, Violet and Zeb Fannin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Merrill Burns and Zephir Quintin; three sisters, Olive Derry, Robinette Shoaff and Alice Fekete; and two brothers, Oscar and Robert Allen.
