RICEVILLE GETS FIRST GOLD STAR
SGT. ROBERT FALTEISEK DIES OF SCALP WOUNDS

Riceville – Word was received here from the war department that Sgt. Robert W. Falteisek, Jr., had died from scalp wounds received in the service of his country.

Robert was born September 22, 1915, and was graduated from Riceville High School, June 2, 1933. He is the son of Robert Falteisek who is employed at Independence.

One sister, Mrs. Josephine Roethler of Ionia, also survives. The mother has been dead many years.

Riceville has 276 stars on its honor roll. This is the first gold star.

OFFER MASS FOR SGT. FALTEISEK
MEMORIAL TO SOLDIER KILLED IN NEW GUINEA

Riceville – Memorial services were held for Sgt. Robert Falteisek at the Immaculate Conception Church Wednesday. The Rev. Fr. O’Sullivan, pastor of the church, read the requiem high mass. Robert died February 10, 1944, from scalp wounds received while in service in New Guinea.

Word has been received from the chaplain stating Catholic services were held for him and describing the place where he was buried.

Robert’s sister, Mrs. Sylvester Roethler, has received a letter of sympathy from Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

Robert W. Falteisek Jr. was the son of Robert Falteisek Sr., and Dorothy (Kendell) Falteisek. His mother died in 1919.
