Funeral services were held Thursday, July 15 at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Maple leaf for Martha A. Bennett, 100, who passed away July 13 from advanced age. The Reverend Bernard Polesky officiated at the services.

Martha was born November 8, 1881 in Clayton County, Iowa, the daughter of August and Louise Breitsprecher. She and her family came to this area when she was 8 years old. Martha attended the rural schools of Howard County.

in 1905, she was united in marriage to Daniel Bernett, and to this union four children were born. The family was engaged in farming. Mr. Bernett passed away in 1939. Mrs. Bernett resided at the Riceville Community Rest Home for several years.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George (Arlys) Schwake, Mrs. Erdman (Lois) Groth, five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Allison (Vera) Miles, seven brothers and six sisters.

Interment was in the Saratoga Cemetery with the Lindstrom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
