ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Lawrence H. Dieterich, 95, of St. Ansgar, died on Monday, March 26, 2012, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 30, at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Lawrence H. Dieterich, 95, of St. Ansgar, died on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa. Funeral service will be on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Visitation is scheduled on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Lawrence was born on April 1, 1916 in Floyd County, Iowa to Carl and Bertha (Kroneman) Dieterich. He was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran Church south of Osage, Iowa, by Pastor Bertram on April 30, 1916. They moved to Mitchell Co. in 1919 to a farm south of St. Ansgar. He was confirmed by Pastor Brammer in Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.

He attended high school in St. Ansgar and graduated in 1935. Lawrence started farming in 1939 south of St. Ansgar. He married Evelyn Billings in 1941 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Osage by Pastor Solemn. They lived on a farm 1/2 mile east of St. Ansgar for two years before moving to a farm 3 1/2 miles south of St. Ansgar, purchasing the farm in 1945 and continued farming until he retired and moved to St. Ansgar in 1982.

Lawrence held many offices during his lifetime including; State secretary for the State Rural Youth Organization, elected to the first Soil Conservation Board in Mitchell Co., on the board for the Mitchell Co. Beef Assoc. and on the board for the Mitchell Co. Swine Assoc., Rock Township Trustee, Farm Bureau voting delegate, on the St. Ansgar School Board a few years after the first reorganization in the early 50’s, president of the School Board for 3 terms, member of the Federal Land Bank Board for 17 years and president for several years, one of the two on the Iowa Advisory Board for the Federal Land Bank of Omaha, served on the church board for many years in various positions and as chairman for several years, sold Pioneer Seed Corn from 1947 to 1982, and served on the St. Ansgar City Council from 1992 to 1996.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant daughter, LaDonna; three brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his children; Rita (David) Kicherer, St. Ansgar; Darla (William) Stiles, West Des Moines, Ia.; Dennis (Ann) Dieterich, St. Ansgar; grandchildren, Misti (Jon) Peppler; Michele Kicherer; Dan Kicherer; Ryan Stiles; Nicholas Stiles; Ben (Amanda) Dieterich; Christine Dieterich: 8 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
