Eva Mae (Johnson) King – May 20, 1901—March 6, 2002

Eva Mae King, 100, formerly of Austin, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Prairie Manor Nursing Home, Blooming Prairie.

She was born May 20, 1901 in Genoa, Illinois, to Chauncy and Susie Mae (Thompson) Johnson. At the age of 1 1/2 her family moved to Riceville, Iowa where she attended school. On May 17, 1919, she married George A. "Allie" King in Osage, Iowa. While living in and around the Riceville area, the couple had seven children. In 1943, Eva and her family moved to Austin where she would reside. In 1994, she moved to Burr Oak Manor and in 2001 to Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie. She has over 120 descendants.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Merreld and Bernice King, Elma, Iowa; Melvin King, Austin; daughters, Vesta Bergland, Austin; Irene Weber, LeRoy; son-in-law, Loren Murphy, Rose Creek; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George in May 1978; daughters, Roberta Jensen, Marcella Murphy and Wilma Bell.

Visitation: (Note change of location.) 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2002, at the church and one hour before the service on Saturday.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. Casket bearers will be Dean Murphy, Joe Weber, Gary King, Fred King, Pat Murphy and Kenneth Bell.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Iowa.

Funeral Home: Mayer Funeral Home, Austin.
