June (Bamford) McNary 1892-1984
Funeral services of long-time resident of Mitchell, June McNary, age 92, were held on Friday, July 13, 1984, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Rev. C. Bunk and Rev. Keith Hejnal officiated, with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell. She died on Tuesday, July 10, 1984, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. Champion Funeral Home in Osage was in charge of arrangements.
June McNary was born in Mitchell on June 15, 1892, the daughter of John Henry and Cara Rice Bamford.
She received her education in Mitchell and then went to Jamestown, North Dakota, where she lived with her sister, Marion Gillette, while taking an additional year of school. Upon returning to Mitchell she attended the seminary in Osage.
In 1911, she bgan teaching the primary class in Mitchell. One June 24, 1914, she was united in marriage to Rev. George McNary. They served congregations in Tripoli, Boscobel, Wisconsin, Monticello, Little Falls, Minnesota, Lake City, Minnesota, and St. Charles, Minnesota. June returned to Mitchell following the death of her husband in 1972 in St. Charles. In addition to her musical talents as a teacher and organist, June was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Eastern Star, and the PEO.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Michael Denesuk of Minneapolis; and by Harriet Olson of Tampa, Florida, and Lillian Eige of Cedar Rapids, nieces who lived with the NcNary's for a time; 14 nieces and eight nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters: Marion Gillette, Nellie Indra, Ina Colby; and three brothers: Freddie, who died as a small child, Herbert and John.
