Funeral services for Mrs. Herbert (Gladys) Penney, 93, formerly of Little Cedar, Iowa, who died on Tuesday, June 12, 1984, at a Stacyville nursing home, were held on Thursday, June 14, 1984 at the Little Cedar Methodist Church. Rev. Loyd Johnson officiated at the service with burial in the Little Cedar Cemetery. Champion Funeral Home, Osage, was in charge of arrangements.
Gladys Makepeace was born December 31, 1890 in Mitchell, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Ella Mae Bucknam Makepeace. She graduated from Little Cedar schools and from Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage.
She taught in rural schools in Mitchell County and married Herbert L. Penney in 1910 in Osage. They farmed in the Little Cedar area until 1952 when they retired and moved to Little Cedar. She lived there until moving to Stacyville in 1981.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two infant children, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Dorothy) Drum of Ruthven; two sons, Howard of Little Cedar, and Stuart of Stacyville; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
