Funeral services were held on May 3, 1984 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church for Harold Smith of Mesa, Arizona, with the Rev. E. Franke officiating. Burial was in Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery. He died on April 20, 1984 in Rochester, Minnesota.

Harold M. Smith was born to Enoch and Ethel Smith, on March 30, 1906, in Greene, Iowa. He went to Western Military Academy at Alton, Illinois, and also attended Iowa State College. He married the former Hazel Anderson of the Meltonville area in 1929. He was employed by the R.J. Reynolds Company for 35 years and retired as division manager in Minot, North Dakota, in 1963, when they moved to Mesa, Arizona.

Harold and Hazel are members of the Velda Rose Methodist Church of Mesa. He was a member of El Zarebah Shrine of Phoenix, Mesa Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Consistory of Minot, North Dakota, Sons of the American Revolution and Elks.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Dr. Robert M. Smith, San Jose, California, and David L. Smith, Mason City; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Other family members include Melvin and Lurene Anderson and family, Gaylord Anderson and Harvey and Donnie Anderson and family of the Carpenter area, and Arlene Anderson and family of St. Ansgar.
