Edward Schmidt

Funeral services for Edward W. Schmidt, who died Monday, Paril 16, 1984, at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage, Iowa, will be held Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage.

Rev. H. Larsen and J. Nesheim will officiate, with burial in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be at Champion Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 18, after 2 p.m.

Edward Schmidt was born on September 1, 1910, in Doon, Lyon county, Iowa, the son of Fred E. and Flora Nieland Schmidt. He moved to Mitchell county in 1921, living on various farms in the vicinity.

He married J. Gladys Van Etten on February 19, 1936, establishing their home in Mitchell. They moved to the present farm in 1943.

Ed farmed his entire life and operated a school bus in the Mitchell schoool area for many years. He was township trustee for 20 years andhelped organize the present Osage Rural Fire Department, serving as vice chairman for ten years. He was a director of the Osage Cooperative Elevator and was a deacon in Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Stephen Earp (Dorothy) of Bettendorf; a son, William A., of rural Osage; and six grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Mabel Barr, Osage, and four brothers, Lawrence and Alvin of rural Osage, Alfred of Charles City and Clifford of West Haven, Conn.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arthur, a World War II casualty, and Earl.
