Charles Hill Died
at Waverly Following
An OperationCharles F. Hill was born in July 1867, in Osage, Iowa, in the house his mother now lives in and is 57 years old. He attended the schools at Osage, Iowa, and grew to manhood here and Osage has always been his home. He worked at different occupations and was employed by Dr. Whitley for sixteen years.
He married Mrs. Alzina Lewis on July 12, 1912, and they have made their home and lived in Osage ever since, with his mother.
They had no children of their own, but he made a home for his stepchildren and helped to bring them up; his wife having been married before, and had four small children to care for and bring up -- three boys and one girl. The girl, Grace Lewis-Shores, lived at home until she was married, and Frank Lewis lived at home here until he got employment in the western part of the state, and is now living in the western part of Iowa -- in the lumber business for the Royal Lumber company. Ralph and Earl Lewis are at home.
He always made a pleasant home for them and thought as much of them as if they were his own children. He was very thoughtful of his mother and went to see her every Sunday he was in Osage, and she got so she expected to see him, and no Sunday was complete to her unless Charley had been there.
They were keeping the Home Cafe at the time of his death, and were very successful in their business and had a happy and pleasant home for all.
He had been in poor health for some time, and on January 26, 1924, he was taken to Waverly, Iowa for an operation. He passed through the operation successfully but did not have strength enough to recover and began failing and passed away Janaury 31, 1924. His stepson, Earl Lewis, and his brother, Walter Hill, were with him when he passed away.
His father having died in 1911, he leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Alzina Hill, his mother, Emma Hill, one sister, Bertha Hill, and one brother, Walter Hill; his stepchildren, Grace Lewis-Shores, Frank Lewis, Earl Lewis, Ralpha Lewis; his uncle F. D. Hill; and five grandchildren, Dorotha Shores, Allene Shores, Dean Shores, Johann Shores and Willima Shores and several cousins and other relatives.
