Funeral services for George H. Parkhurst, 93, of Carpenter, were held on Monday, APril 9, 1984, at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, Iowa. Rev. K. Hejnal of the Osage United Church of Christ officiated at the service with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell, Iowa. He died on Saturday, April 7, 1984, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

George Parkhurst was born on February 23, 1891 in Seattle, the son of Arthur W. and Cora Clason Parkhurst. WHen he was 14, his family moved to the Clason family farm east of Osage. He attended May Country School and also went to Cedar Valley Seminary, formerly located in Osage.

IN 1910 he began working at the Mitchell Savings Bank, Osage, and was associated with the institution for 25 years until its closing in 1935. He then was employed at Carpenter Savings Bank, Carpenter, until 1957.

On November 23, 1913, he was united in marriage to Agnes B. Ross in Albert Lea, Minnesota. They joined the Mitchell Congregational Church which later closed and then they became members of the Osage United Church of Christ. Parkhurst served in several public offices.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes, of Carpenter; a son, George J., of rural Osage; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clason and Clark.
