Funeral services for Mrs. Virgil (Cora) McGhan Sr., 79, of Osage were Saturday, April 7, at the United Church of Christ in Osage, Iowa. She died Tuesday, April 3, 1984, at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital. Rev. K. Hejnel officiated at the service with burial in the Osage Cemetery. Champion Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cora Alice Nelson was born on May 25, 1904, the daughter of Albert and Clara Nelson, on a farm southwest of Osage. She graduated from Osage High School in 1923. She was united in marriage to Virgil McGhan on Deember 25, 1923.

She and her father operated the M&N Shoe Store for some time. In 1937 she and her family moved to a farm in Howard County, ten years later moving to a farm south of Orchard.

For 25 years she was a local sales Representative for Newton Mfg. Specialty Advertising. For the last 16 years Mrs. McGhan has assisted at the Maple Inn in Osage.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil, Sr., two sons, Virgil "Mike" Jr. of Osage and Donald of Santa Barbara, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ervin Nelson.
