Robert Ellsworth Hinzman – November 20, 1922 – February 9, 2005
Robert E. Hinzman, age 82, of Riceville, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, February 9, 2005.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, February 12, at 3:00 p.m., at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville. Burial will be at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Iowa, as Robert made an anatomical gift to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Robert was born on November 20, 1922, to William Ford and Lera (Dunton) Hinzman in Riceville, Iowa. He attended local schools and graduated from the Riceville High School in 1940.
Robert was united in marriage to Lola Thompson on July 1, 1942, north of Riceville. To them was born a daughter, Connie Rae. As a young man, Bob enjoyed hunting and was an excellent trap shooter. Bob's biggest enjoyment was attending any kind of car races and he was a regular spectator most weekends with his special friend, Gabby Howland.
Bob worked with his father in the Hinzman Pool Hall in Riceville and later attended barber's college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Robert and his wife, Lola operated the Hinzman's Hair N Care in Riceville until health caused Bob to retire in 2003. Lois continues to operate the salon.
His survivors include his wife, Lola of Riceville; a daughter, Connie and her husband, Jerry Kilts of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a granddaughter, Kimberly O'Hara of Iowa City, Iowa.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
