PAUL NEWHOUSE, 58, OF RICEVILLE, DIES FEW DAYS AFTER SURGERY

Paul Newhouse, 58, of Riceville, died at St. Mary’s Hospital at Rochester, Minnesota, Wednesday noon, October 26, 1955, after being critically ill for a week. He had major surgery about ten days before, which was successful, but infection and other complications developed that could not be overcome.

Mr. Newhouse had spent nearly is entire life in the Riceville area. He was born October 20, 1897, at Colfax, Iowa, the son of Elijah Madison and Jessie (Terpstra) Newhouse. He was reared at McIntire, and for a number of years farmed north of Riceville. He was one of the best known auctioneers in this part of Iowa, started, and owned the Riceville Sale Pavillion, and in late yars has been a successful real estate broker.

He is survived by his wife, the former Maxine Harding and their daughter, Pamela; also five children by a previous marriage; Ardys, Mrs. Jim Nauman of Lime Springs, Iowa; Charles of Croton, Connecticut; Mrs. Mary McFarlane of Tacoma, Washington; and Thera, Mrs. Gary Bacha, of Tacoma, Washington.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Riceville Methodist Church with Misses Luella Koether and Janet Sundan conducting the ceremony.
Burial was in the Riceville Cemetery.
