Death of Wm. Hughes

DIED: On Tuesday September 28, 1897, in Osage, Wm. Hughes aged 43 years 9 months.

Wm. Hughes, was the oldest son of Partick and Helen Hughes, who came to Mitchell county in 1871. Deceased leaves a widow and five children
to mourn his loss.

In 1888 he was married to Kate Shea and settled on his own farm seven miles north of Osage, where they resided continously until a year or so ago. Deceased was always an active and robust man, temperate in his habits, of good character and highly respected wherever known.

His sickness was inflammation of the bowels it being the second attack of the same nature within the last six months having hardly recovered his usual strength and vigor when the second attack came and suddenly, but all was done that medical experience and aid could do for him. The news of his death so entirely unexpected was a shock to the entire community. It is particularly sad considering that he was in the prime of life, and that he should be called away thus early and separated from his family, whom he loved so dearly.

The funeral services were conducted in Sacred Heart church; soleum requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. J. F. Bowen, who attended him in the last hours of his sickness.

NOTE: It is believed that he is buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Osage.
