Obituary

James H. Slawson, the subject of this sketch, was born in the state of New York, August 6, 1839. In his early childhood (1844) his parents moved to Wisconsin where he resided until 1864 when he moved to Iowa, settling first in Mitchell, and later on his farm in Rock Creek, where he died April 18, 1894.

He was the father of eleven children, three boys and eight girls, of whom nine survive him. All but one were present at the funeral.

All that the thoughtful and tender care of a devoted wife and affectionate children could do was done for him. He was a sufferer for years. Mr. Slawson was a good neighbor and a good citizen. Not only in Rock Creek where he has been highly esteemed for nearly thirty years, but in Osage and Mitchell he had many warm friends who mourn his loss.

The funeral services were held at the family residence April 20. Mr. O. P.Woodard had charge of the music. "Set thy house in order, for thou shalt die and not live," (Isiah, xxxciii;1) was the text for the short sermon by Prof. J. S. Lapham.

The large number of friends and neighbors that followed the remains to their last resting place in the Osage cemetery testify the esteem in which he was ever held, and sympathy for his wife, children and other mourning relatives.
