ETHYL WEST
FUNERAL HELD
OCTOBER 20

Funeral services for Ethyl L. West, 94, who died Friday, October 17, 1997, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, which she had been content and grateful to call "home" for five years, were held Monday, October 20, 1997, at the St. Ansgar Methodist Church with Pastor Ted Stowers officiating.

Ethyl L. West (Billington) was born November 27, 1902 at Winnebago, Minnesota. Her childhood was spent in this area and December 3, 1911 she was baptized in the Presbyterian Church of Winnebago, where her parents were members. Her father was an engineer on the Milwaukee Railroad.

September 18, 1925 she was united in marriage to Charles West of St. Ansgar. She soon became an active member of the Methodist church, filling many officers in the Woman's Society of Christian Service and the United Methodist Women. Her home was always open to visiting pastors and lay people as well as groups who met for Bible study and prayer.

Mrs. West was active in community affairs. She was the first Brownie Scout leader, also the first "helper" when Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Eggleston started a school lunch program

Ethyl is survived by cousins, Mrs. Charles Zimmerman, Littleton, Colorado, Don Albertson and wife Peggy of Sarasota, Florida; two nieces, Mrs. Barbara Ostlund and husband Alan of Annadale, Minnesota, Mrs. Carol West of Long Beach, California; two grand nephews, Wesley and Charles Ostlund, as well as many who will remember a lady who enjoyed doing for others as long as she was able and who graciously accepted and blessed those who later came to help her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grayce and Charles Billington and her husband, Charles.

Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery.
