Funeral services for Willis E. Gaines, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and formerly of Osage, Iowa, were held on Wednesday, March 14, 1984, at the John B. Turner and Son Funeral Chapel West, Cedar Rapids. Gaines died on Sunday, March 11, at a Cedar Rapids hospital.
Rev. R. Dennert of Trinity United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, officiated. Graveside services were held on Thursday, March 15, 1984, at the Little Cedar Cemetery, Little Cedar, Mitchell county, Iowa.
Gaines was born on January 26, 1901 in Springville. He married Verna B. Hill on March 31, 1920. She died in 1950. On May 18, 1957 he married Elizabeth Harmes in Cedar Rapids. He was employed as a linotype operator for more than 20 years before retiring.
Gaines was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, Osage Masonic Lodge No. 102 AF and AM and Typographical Union Local 192.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Beatrice Tibbitts, Cedar Rapids; one son, Jack E. Gaines, Kent, Wash.; one stepson, J. E. Harmes, Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Florence Wilson, Bradenton, Florida, Vesta Magee, Mount Pleasant and Ruby Pyle, Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Francis and John, both of Mount Vernon; two half-sisters, Elizabeth Longstreth of Long Beach, Calif, and Velma Jean Williams of Corona del Mar, California.
