Funeral services were held on Friday, February 13, 1987 at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, rural Lyle, Minnesota, for Alfred J. Hofland, age 87, of St. Ansgar, Iowa. Mr. Hofland died on Tuesday, February 10, 1987, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Rev. G. Grant officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.

Alfred J. Hofland was born on March 10, 1899 in Union township, Mitchell county, Iowa, to Elling and Gertrude Hofland. He was united in marriage to Amelia Stelter (sp?) on June 23, 1924 (?). He farmed in Union township all his life, until his retirement in 1964.

He was a lifelong member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church and was active in many church committees, and a member of Lutheran Brotherhood. He was also a member of Sons of Norway, Farm Bureau, and served on the Board of Education of Union Township No. 3 School.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia, who died June 21, 19__(?), his parents, and one brother.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth, Elaine Losee of Dodge Center, Minnesota; one son, Allen of St. Ansgar; five grandsons, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Schulze of St. Ansgar and Mrs. Etta Diederich of Northwood; and two brothers, Sidney of Preston, Minnesota and Eugene of St. Ansgar.
