Mrs. Margaret M. Dickson
Born April 5, 1835
Died February 14, 1911
Mrs. Margaret McElroy Dickson was born April 5, 1835, in County Darry, Ireland and passed away February 14, 1911, at home near Osage, Iowa, aged 75 years, 10 months and 9 days.
The funeral services were held at the home February 16, 1911, Rev. S. A. Martin of Doniphan, Nebraska, a former pastor preaching from Psalms 16:11, "Thou wilt show me the path of life; in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore."
The floral offerings were many and beautiful. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the beautiful cemetery at Osage, Iowa.
Miss Margaret McElroy was united in marriage with Mr. John Dickson, May 29, 1862, at her home in Ireland. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Dickson came to America and settled in the vicinity of Whitewater, Wisconsin. In 1870, they removed to Mitchell County, Iowa. For more than 35 years Mrs. Dickson's home had been on the same farm in East Lincoln township on which she died.
This union was blessed with six children, Robert R. of O'Neil, Nebraska, Mrs. T. R. Godfrey of Whitewater, Wisconsin, Wm., Miss Jennie and John living in the old home, and Joseph in a home of his own near by. They with one sister, a brother, seven grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors are left to mourn the loss of a loving mother, a good neighbor and a kind friend.
Mrs. Dickson became a Christian in early life and united with the Presbyterian church in her native land.
On coming to America she united with the Presbyterian church in Lima, Wisconsin, after coming to Mitchell county, Iowa, she united with the Stillwater Congregational church of which she was an active and efficient member when called from work to reward. The vineyard of the Lord furnishes abundance of Christian work for all who will adopt the language of the Prophet-Isaiah, who said. "Here am I, send me."
This was the kind of a Christian Sister Dickson was. In the community she was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. In the church work our sister, so far as her strength would permit, readily and heartliy co-operated in all its activities. She gave to its benevolences and its enterprises,and in the perplexity of problems of its affairs her counsel was invaluable.
And because of her noble character and useful Christian life, her children rise up and call her blessed. It is said, that person is truly wise who knows the will of God, and the person who does the will of God has achived true success. All things considered, it would be difficult to find a person who came nearer this Cristian goal than did our sister.
