Anton Martin Smith 1874-1942

Funeral services for Anton M. Smith were held at the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar. The Rev. O.A. Langehough was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery on the family lot.

Anton M. Smith was born in St. Ansgar, Iowa, October 22, 1874, the second son of John and Amalia Smith. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith by Rev. John Olsen and spent his boyhood days in St. Ansgar where he attended the public schools and St. Ansgar Seminary. He left St. Ansgar in 1907 for Kansas City, Kansas, where he was employed by the Kansas City Structural Steel Company until 1910, when he went to Texas where he was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad and the Mosher Steel Works. Here he was foreman of structural steel and bridge construction work. For the last 20 years, Houston, Texas, has been his home, and there he passed away at the age of 68 years after a week's illness due to a stroke and heart ailment.

He is survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. H.R. McVey of Chico, California, Mrs. W.G. Hagemann of Kansas City, Kansas, H.A. Smith of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. O.C. Smith and several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICES ARE HELD FOR ANTON SMITH

St. Ansgar -- Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Anton Smith, who died Friday at Houston, Texas, after a few weeks illness. The Rev. Olaf A. Langehaugh of the First Lutheran Church officiated.

The Smith family are former residents of st. Ansgar. John Smith, Anton Smith's father, owned the local hardware store.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Tillie McVey of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Warner Hageman of Kansas City, and one brother, Hovel Smith of Bisbee, Arizona.
