Assor Knudson Guldbrandsgaard was born on the 12th day of May, 1816 in parish of Aal, Hallingdal, Buskerud county, Norway, and died the 2nd of November, 1908 in St. Ansgar township, Mitchell County, Iowa, at the residence of his son Knud Assorson.
In the year 1840 he was married to Christi Knudsdatter Handegaard from Hardanger.
With wife and son he emigrated to America in 1852 and arrived in Rock Co., Wisconsin the same fall. He there continued with his trade as a turner. The following year he and his family moved with the Clausen and Tollefson colony to Mitchell Co. and claimed land one and a half miles north of St. Ansgar.
His wife died in 1889 leaving him one son, Knud. Of his six grandchildren, four are living, and nine great-grandchildren.
The last two years he has been poorly, and on Monday morning, the 2nd of November he passed quietly away at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 20 days.

NOTES:1. He is buried in First Lutheran Cemetery at St. Ansgar. His tombstone says his name is Assor Knutson, but the official (Sexton's) records give his name as Assor K. Assorsen.

NOTES:Assor Knudsen (Gulbrandsgaard) was born May 12, 1816 at Aal, Hallingdal, Norway to Knut Larson Gulbrandsgaard (b 1782) and Birgit Assorsdatter (1785-1863), one of their seven (or 8?) children.
Assor married Christie Knudsdatter Handegaard (1812-1889) in 1840 at Hordaland, Norway.
The couple had 1 son, Knud (b September 1841 Norway, d 1920 St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa).
The family emigrated in 1852 to Rock County, Wisconsin. They moved to St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa in 1853 with the Rev Claus Clausen party.
Assor bought land from the US Government at Fort Des Moines on May 15, 1855 for 40 acres, cash sale, Sect 11, 99 N, 18W, 5th PM, Mitchell Co, IA. and in Oct 1855, 40 acres, section 12 of same.
He became a naturalized citizen on June 21, 1858.
Found in the 1860 - 1900 censuses living at rural St. Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1860: Asor Knudson 44, Christie Knudson 48, Knud Knudson 19.
1870: Asser Cauntenn 54, Christ Cauntenn 58, Canute Olson 25.
1880: Assor Assorsen, Kristi; living with them is a brother, Knud Knudsen (born about 1818) and wife Gunia, age 56 (her name may be Sunif, hard to read)
1885: Asor Knudsen 70, Christie Knudsen 72.
1895: Asser Knudson age 78.
1900: widowed, living by Knud and Alfred (son and grandson); Assor Knudsen age 84.
Assor Knudsen died November 2, 1908 at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Blakestad Cemetery at rural St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa (also known as the Mill Road or Peterson Cemetery).
FindaGrave Memorial #11011039 has his obituary and a photo of his gravestone. ( Found a second Find a Grave Memorial at #43382323 which says he is buried at First Lutheran Cemetery, believe that is incorrect.)
