MASON CITY - Katherine M. Hvattum, 90, of 4 Third St. N.W., died Wednesday (March 29, 2006) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Steve Palo officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and continue one hour before the service Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of North Iowa.

Katherine was born March 8, 1916, in Osage, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Dreher) Wilmot. She graduated from Osage High School and Hamilton School of Business.

Katherine married T. Henry Hvattum on Aug. 21, 1935, in Charles City. In 2004, they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. The Hvattums moved to Mason City in 1943. Katherine worked as an office secretary for the Teamsters for 20 years, retiring in 1973.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Order of the Eastern Star, the Toastmasters Club, Business and Professional Women's Association and the North East Iowa Rosemaling Association. Katherine also volunteered at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa and enjoyed playing bridge.

Katherine is survived by her daughter, Randi Christensen and husband, G. Wayne, of Floyds Knobs, Ind.; five grandchildren, Dori Ashburn and husband, Scott, of Mason City, Mike Warner, of Mason City, Lisa Holifield and husband, Don, of Birmingham, Ala., Brian Christensen, of Floyds Knobs, Ind., Janelle Sumner and husband, Brian, of Denver, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Abigail and Grant Henry; and a brother, Fred Wilmot, of Vancouver, Canada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter; Linda Warner; and an infant son, Thomas.
