FOSSEY, RUSTAD, BRIDGEMAN, HATTEN, BLASER, MEYER, PRICE

Leo Mense Fossey, son of the late Mense and Amy (Rustad) Fossey, was born in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, on January 1, 1932.

He was baptized into the Lutheran faith by Rev. Langehough on March 20, 1932, and confirmed by Rev. Torvik on June 9, 1946, at Mona Lutheran Church.

Leo attended the Mona School, the Pleasant Prairie Country School, and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1950.

After his graduation, Leo was employed by Fossey Implement in Austin until he was called to serve in the U.S. Marines from February 20, 1952, until February 19, 1954. Upon his discharge, leo farmed with his dad for several years, then he farmed on his own.

On January 2, 1956, Leo was united in marriage to Joan Bridgeman of Austin. The couple resided in Lyle and became members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. To this union, five children were born. In 1962, they moved out to the family farm south of Lyle.

In the fall of 1992, Leo was diagnosed as having terminal cancer and passed away at the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City on January 9, 1993.

Leo will always be remembered as a true husband, dad, grandpa, and friend. He enjoyed helping and visiting with friends and neighbors, shooting sporting clays, and attending gun shows.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; their children, Neal and Cindy Fossey; Gary and Barb Fossey; Lori and Jim Hatten; Lana and Jim Blaser; and Joel and Connie Fossey; their grandchildren, Eric, Heidi and Ben Fossey; Bryan Fossey; Michael, Melissa, and Amy Hatten; Brent Blaser; and Tanya Eckert, Luke, and Colby Fossey.

Also surviving are Leo's two sisters, Margaret and her husband Loren Meyer; and Norma and her husband Emery Price; one brother, Allen Fossey of Preston; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Marion Fossey.

NOTES: His funeral service folder said the service was held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota, and burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Mona, Mitchell county, Iowa.

Military honors were by Walter T. Enneberg Post #358 of the American Legion.

Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home was in charge.
