ST. ANSGAR WOMAN BORN IN
NORWAY; FUNERAL IS MONDAY
St. Ansgar – Maren Stovern, died Friday morning of a lingering illness at her home here.
Born at Ringerike, Norway, in 1848, she was the last of a group of 44 persons who were confirmed by the Rev. Mr. Clausen, in the woods north of St. Ansgar
Surviving are a sister, Marie of St. Ansgar; and a brother, Edward of Colfax, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Olaf A. Langehough in charge.

Maren Stovern was born September 1848 in Norway, the daughter of Erick and Randie Stovern. She was buried in the First Lutheran Cemetery, as were her parents.
In the 1925 Iowa Census’s for some of the children of Randie Stovern, her maiden name is spelled at least four different ways: Kittelstyle; Kettelye; Kittelsby; and possibly Kittleson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and the following siblings that I could find:
Lauritz died 1892; Ole died 1897; Andrew died 1925; Anna Thorson (Mrs. Ole Thorson) in 1936 and survived by her sister Marie and brother Edward.

LAST OF THE PIONEERS DIED HERE FRIDAY
Funeral services were conducted from the First Lutheran church for Maren Stovern who died at her home after a lingering illness November 24, 1939.
Miss Stovern was born in Ringerike, Norway, September 12, 1848. When she was three years old, she came with her parents, Erick and Rande Stovern, to America. They settled in Calmar where they lived two years. The family then came to St. Ansgar where they were among the early pioneers. Miss Stovern spent the remainder of her life in St. Ansgar and vicinity.
She was confirmed with a class of forty-four, the largest group ever to be confirmed at one time from the First Lutheran church, by the Reverend C. Clausen. This was before the church was built and the exercises were held in the woods north of town.
For many years she worked with her sister in a dressmaking shop which they operated here.
Miss Stovern died at her home in St. Ansgar at the age of ninety-one years and two months. During her last ilness she was cared for by her sister, Marie.
Surviving is her sister, Marie of St. Ansgar and a brother, Edward of Colfax, Wisconsin.
Interment was made in the First Lutheran cemetery.
