Edith T. Brown, 92, of Osage, died Monday, October 10, 1994, at the Faith Home in Osage.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, October 13, at the First Baptist Church in Osage, with the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. Burial was in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City. Champion Funeral Home in Osage was in charge of arrangements.
Edith Brown was born on March 25, 1902 near Horton, the daughter of Edward and Sarah (Cutshaw) Wylam. She was educated in the rural schools, and graduated from Plainfield High School. She continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, receiving her Masters degree in Art.
On January 28, 1941, she married Hugo E. Brown in Waucoma. They farmed north of Charles City until 1959, when Hugo retired. The couple then moved to Osage. Edith was a school teacher for 44 [?] years. She taught art in Oelwein, Cedar Rapids, Charles City and Osage. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Osage, the Cedar Valley Retired Teachers, the Shakespearean Club and the Women’s Club.
Living family members include three daughters: Norma Birkholtz of New Haven, Shirley Temple of Charles City, and Bernadine Howe of Rockford; one sister, Bess Boldt of Kingston, North Carolina; and one sister-in-law, Avis Brown of New Hampton. There are 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugo, in 1986; two sons: Veryl and Eldon; four sisters: Grace Wilson, Loyda Fuller, Lola Wylam and Barbara Engstrom; and one brother, Claude Wylam.
