Here Mr. Schroeder enjoyed some of the happiest days of his life. He was always interested in his home, community and church, and his contented disposition won him many friends.

In April of 1953 Mr. Schroeder submitted to major surgery, but he regained his health to such an extent that he and his wife observed their golden wedding anniversary September 2, 1953.

On the morning of May 24 he was suddenly stricken with a severe pain. He was taken to St. Olaf hospital in Austin where he submitted to another operation from which he never recovered. The diagnosis was embolism. Mr. Schroeder attained the age of 76 years and five days.

Survivors inclde his wife, daughter, Mrs. Helon McKenzie and one grandson, Kenneth, of Nashville, Tennessee; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers, and one sister in infancy, and another sister, Mrs. L.C. Baker, who died in 1944.
