Richard Thomas Coulthurst 1858-1936

PIONEER SUCCUMBS AT THERMOPOLIS

Thermopolis, Wyoming, Sept. 6. -- Richard T. Coulthurst, 78, pioneer resident of Thermopolis, died Saturday morning in this city. He was born in England.

The body will be forwarded to Osage, Iowa, on Tuesday for burial. He is survived by his widow.

Richard Thomas Coulthurst was born in December 1858, the son of William and Mary (Fairhurst) Coulthurst. He married Adelia “Delia” Pennell. She was born August 6, 1859 and died July 27, 1944. They are both buried in the Osage Cemetery.

NOTE: the obit says he was born in England but the 1880 US Census: Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa says he was born in Iowa and the 1900, 1910 and 1920 Census, says born Wisconsin. His parents were born in England.

BODY OF RICHARD
COULTHURST TO BE
BRUED HERE SAT.

The remains of Richard Coulthurst, a former Osage resident, will be brought to Osage from Wyoming within a day or two for burial in the family lot. The family occupied at one time the Bert Rogers farm west of Osage.

Surviving is Mrs. Couldhurts and one daughter, Mrs. Eva Doty, of Mason City, and a sister, Mrs. James Van Clete, also of Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday, September 12, 1936, at the Champion Funeral home.

Richard T. Coulthurst, son of Willian and Mary Jane Coulthurst, was born 77 years ago the 29th of December, and passed away September 5 at Thermopolis, Wyoming.

At the age of seven yeras he came with his parents to Mitchell county, Iowa, living on a farm near Osage. When he was 22 years old he moved to a farm near Manly.

On September 22, 1883, he was married to Adeline Pennell, of Plymouth, Iowa. They made their home near Manly until the fall of 1913, when they moved to Thermopolis, Wyoming, where Mr. Coulthurst spend the rest of his life.

He was a member of the United Evangelical church of Manly, and he attended church until unable to be present in his home of worship.

For the pat two years, he has been in ill health, being taken seriously on the 4th of last February. He regained his strength so that he was able to be about his home until a few days before his death.

He was always a willing helpter in times of need, trouble and sickness.

He lieaves to mourn his passing, his wife, of Thermopolis, Wyoming; his daughter, Mrs. Eva Doty, Mason City, Iowa; one brother, W. H. Coulthurst, Whittier, Calif; and one sister, Mrs. James Van Kleek, Mason City.
