CONDUCT RITES FOR ERWIN PIKE

COMPLICATIONS FOLLOWING APPENDECTOMY CAUSE DEATH OF MAN

Rites for Erwin Allan Pike, 32, who died last Thursday morning following an operation for appendicitis, were conducted from the First Lutheran church Monday afternoon. Rev. O.A. Langehough in charge. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

Mr. Pike was taken ill Sunday morning at 1:30 but attended a family reunion during the day. Later his condition became worse and he consulted a doctor. He was taken to Nissen hospital Monday morning and an operation performed from which he seemed to be recovering until late Wednesday night when either pneumonia set in and resulted in his death at five minutes after three Thursday morning. His family, Rev. Solem of Osage and Rev. Langehough were at his bedside when he died.

Edwin Allan Pike was born December 9, 1903 in Deer Creek township, Worth county. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Waldeland, December 20, 1903 and was confirmed May 12, 1918. He was graduated from Otranto high school May 25, 1922. His entire life was spent with his father and brothers on the farm. At the age of 16 he came with his family to a farm west of Otranto where they lived for nine years, moving from there to the present home south of town.

Two brothers preceded him in death, Earl Arthur, and Pearl Clarion. He is survived by his mother and father; three brothers, Anton, Lawrence and Warren; six sisters, Diana, Edna, Delores and Crystal, all residing at home, Mrs. Laura Hendrickson of Austin, Mrs. Evelyn Nelson of Albert Lea.
