Nelda was born in Streator, Illinois in 1938 and graduated from high school there. She graduated from the Univ. of Illinois in 1960, and later received her Masters Degree from De Paul Univ. in Illinois.
In 1960 she married Duane Fort and the couple established their home in Osage, Iowa, from 1960 to 1968 where she taught school. They later moved to Green Castle, Indiana, Clive, Iowa, and Sullivan, Illinois. In January 1985 they moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Duane of Fort Dodge; two sons, Russell Duane of Sullivan, Illinois and Harold Louis of Mattoon, Illinois; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Stacell of Streator, Illinois; two brothers, Alan and Glen.
