Obituary of
Glen Ackerman

Glen G. "Mike" Ackerman was born on February 8, 1908 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Edward and Susan Ackerman.

He attended schools in Wadena, Minnesota and Riceville, Iowa.

On December 31, 1931 he was united in marriage to Velma Whistler in LeRoy. To this union two children were born.

Mike was self employed as a stone mason most of his life. He and his wife left LeRoy in 1961 and moved to Yakima, Washington where they lived for 13 years and then moved to Reinbeck, Iowa where he retired in 1976. In May of 1978 they returned to LeRoy.

Mike suffered a heart attack on September 28th and died on Wednesday, October 25, 1978 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Wabasha, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard.

Survivors include his wife, Velma of LeRoy, one son, James of Yakima, Washington, one daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Jerry Wyatt) of Reads Landing, Minnesota, nine grandchildren, one step-son John Prohaska of Des Moines, Iowa, one step-daughter, Mrs. Ray Kershbaum of Des Moines, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. Leonard Banks of Lime Springs, Iowa, Mrs. Glen Dann of Mesa, Arizona and one brother, Martin of Cresco, Iowa.

Funeral services where held on Sunday, October 29, 1978 at 2 p.m. at the LeRoy Lutheran Church with Reverend Gary Olson officiating. Mrs. Darold Yost was the organist with Mrs. Jean Olson the soloist. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery. Casket bearers were: Ed Ackerman, Dean Dykeman, Burley Elliott, Dale Ricks, Jan Whistler and Claire Wolthoff.

Arrangements were with the Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy, Minnesota.
