SWITZER IS FIRST WAR CASUALTY OF MCINTIRE
MCINTIRE, IOWA -- Word has been received from the war department by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Switzer that their son, Pvt. Vernon Switzer, was killed in action in New Guinea on Christmas day.
Switzer had been in service since January 3, 1942, and is the first casualty reported in this vicinity.

#2:McINTIRE, IOWA -- Memorial funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday for Vernon Switzer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Switzer. He was killed December 25, 1942, in action in New Guinea.

HOLD MEMORIAL RITES
McIntire – Memorial services were conducted for Cpl. Vernon D. Switzer, who was killed in action in the southwest Pacific on December 25th.
The service was conducted by the Rev. Henry Olson and the American Legion of Riceville.

Vernon D. Switzer was the son of Earl Glen Switzer and Ilda Lavina (Oleson) Switzer, of McIntire, Mitchell, Iowa.
In the January 1920 Census the family was living in Geneva, Franklin Co., Iowa and Vernon was 8/12 years old.
