Maggie M. (Meikle) Carter – January 4, 1862 – December 15, 1941
Maggie M. Meikle, daughter of James and Margaret Meikle, was born January 4, 1862, in Delafield, Wisconsin, and passed away December 15, 1941, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 11 days, at her home in Bailey, where she had resided for the past fifty years.
At the age of four years she moved with her parents from Wisconsin to Ludlow Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. Here she grew to womanhood.
On June 3, 1891, she was united in marriage to James Joseph Carter, who preceded her in death on August 23, 1939.
To this union five children were born; Bryce, of Willmar, Minnesota; Perry of McIntire; Glen, of Kent, Minnesota; Hugh, of Colwell, Iowa; and Mrs. Jessie Aspel, of Bailey.
Besides the above relatives she also leaves her stepson Gale Carter, of Haskell, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; one sister; Jessie Meikle, of Frankville; and numerous friends to mourn her passing.
Mrs. Carter suffered a stroke last March from which she never fully recovered. She will be remembered as a loving mother and a kind and helpful friend.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Thursday afternoon, December 18, at 1:30 O’clock, conducted by the Rev. Bell, of Riceville. “Rock of Ages” and “No Night There”, were sang by Mrs. Alden Harshbarger and Mrs. Mayo Newhouse.
Burial was in the Wayne Cemetery. The pallbearers were Morris Peterson, Mayo Newhouse, Ed Bergadeen, George Errington, J. T. Vaughan, and Irvin Sloan.

NOTES:We can trace her through the census records clear up to 1930. She was the wife of Richard W. Carter 1846-1920. She's listed in 3 Census records as Margaret E. In the 1900 census, she is listed as being born October 1856.
