LT. HILLS 1ST OSAGE DEATH IN KOREAN WAR
Osage – Mr. and Mrs. Leslie B. Hills have been notified that their son, Lt. L. Bruce Hills, was killed in the Korean conflict February 13th. He was in the 1st Cavalry, Co. L. 3rd Regiment, near Kumyangjang, Korea.
A letter written to his parents the day prior to his death stated that they had been in various small parties, then the letter was interrupted by stating that a message had just come over the radio that he was to meet with the officers in a special meeting. That is the last work that came from him.
Hills was in World War II, having had R.O.T.C. training at S.U.I.
He was born is Osage, was graduated from the Osage High School, and from the State University of Iowa, Iowa City. He entered the army in 1943, served for 3 years and 3 months and at the time of his discharge was with the 81st division.
When called in as a reservist he was employed in the advertising department of the Salem Capital-Journal, Salem, Oregon. He entered the service September 27, 1954, and was sent overseas within a month.
Hills leaves his parents in Osage, his wife, the former Corabelle Weeks, and son, L. B. Hills III, at Salem, Oregon; a brother, Jim, Longview, Washington; and a sister; Mrs. Merlyn Borchardt, Osage.
The young officer won 3 battle stars in World War II, an arrowhead for the invasion of Anguar and was 2 ½ years in the Pacific following which he did occupation duty in Japan.

Leslie Bruce Hills Jr., was the son of Leslie B. Hills Sr. and Alma E (Cornell) Hills. He married Corabelle H. Weeks on September 8, 1946 in Marion County, Oregon, the daughter of Lloyd and Florence Weeks.
