RITES HELD FOR MRS. E. FORBES
BURIAL AT CARPENTER IS MADE FOR NORTHWOOD ILLNESS VICTIM, 72

Northwood – funeral services for Mrs. Emma J. Forbes, 72, were held Sunday afternoon at the Klein Funeral Home in this city conducted by the Rev. R. S. Philips, pastor of the Northwood Methodist Church. Burial was in the cemetery at Carpenter, Mrs. Forbes having lived there before coming to Northwood.

Mrs. Forbes died at her home in Northwood last Thursday after an illness of several months which included the necessity for a major operation. She suffered a light stroke on August 27th, and declined steadily until her death a week later.

Mrs. Forbes was born February 17, 1869 at North Prairie, Wisconsin. The family moved to Utica, Wisconsin, when she was 7 years of age. At the age of 20 years she came with her father and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Nixon, to Worth County, Mr. Nixon having purchased a farm near Meltonville.

In 1892 she married Albert Pike and with him established their first home on a farm in Deer Creek Township, Worth County. Mr. Pike died in November 1898, and a year later the family moved to Carpenter.

In 1911 she married Frank Forbes, a Northwood attorney. After eight years residence in Northwood, the family moved to their farm in Deer Cree Township, where Mr. Forbes died in 1935. Mrs. Forbes purchased a home in Northwood following his death.

Surviving are her three children; William Pike and Harry Pike of Northwood; Mrs. Herman (Ida) Curley of Deer Creek Township; two granddaughters, Charlotte and Harriet Curley; and two sisters; Mrs. Helen Best, Austin, Minnesota; and Mrs. Ella Schlaak, Los Angeles, California.

One daughter Esther Ella Pike, died in infancy.

There are two stepsons living; Walter Talcott Forbes, Minneapolis; and Field Bradford Forbes, Redwood Falls, Minnesota.

Emma Jane Nixon was born February 17, 1869 in Wisconsin, the daughter of William Henry Nixon and Mary Elizabeth (Plum) Nixon. Her father William Henry Nixon was born December 3, 1829 in England and died November 13, 1907 in Iowa. He is buried in the Newburg Cemetery, Carpenter, Mitchell, Iowa and so is Emma.

Emma, 1st husband Albert Edwin Pike was born January 25, 1866 and died October 29, 1898. He was the son of Edwin Roy Pike and Diana (Sumpton) Pike, He was buried in the Ogden Cemetery, Otranto, Mitchell, Iowa.
Their daughter Esther Ella Pike was born June 1894 and died June 18, 1895 and is also buried in the Ogden Cemetery.

They had 4 children:
Esther Ella Pike; William Edwin Pike; Harry Albert Pike; and Ida Emma Pike. (Ida married Herman Curley)

Her 2nd husband Francis C. “Frank” Forbes was born December 1853 in Massachusetts and died April 29, 1935. He is buried in the Sunset Rest, Worth Co., Iowa Cemetery. His first wife was Genevieve Talcott.
