Dan Whittaker
Mr. Whittaker had complained of not feeling well on Sunday, but was up and around, and during the day he enjoyed a ride with his son, Glenn. In the night he became worse and aroused the household, but before a physician could help him, he had passed away, about a half-hour after he awakened.
Dan Whittaker had been a prominent farmer of this community for many years. His farm was one of the most prosperous in the township, and until he sold our a few years ago he was actively engaged in running it. When he retired from business life he and his wife purchased a home on east Main Street, where they have since lived.
Besides Mrs. Whittaker he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. R. L. Whitley, Mrs. Anton Larson, and Mrs. Lou Whittaker-Wilkinson, of Los Angeles, and one son, Glenn. His sister, Mrs. W. E. Owen, also resides here.
Funeral services are to be conducted this afternoon by the Reverend Frank Court, of Davenport. The Reverend Court, in his earliest days in Osage, used to preach at the schoolhouse located near the Whittaker farm and he and Mr. Whittaker formed a close friendship. Burial will be made in the Local cemetery.

#3:BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
"Daniel Whitaker is one of the pioneers of Mitchell County, where he settled in 1854. He is a son of Benjamin and Sophronia (Foninan [sic]) Whitaker, and was born in Lycoming Co., Penn., Feb. 7, 1847. He went to Michigan in 1850 with his parents, and four years later the family came to Mitchell County and built the first house on the site of Osage City. Mr. Whitaker was then seven years old, and has grown up with the county. He has witnessed its marvelous expansion to a rank commensurate with the rest of northern Iowa, and added his share to its welfare.
He was married in Osage, Dec. 17, 1868, to Allene, daughter of Edson and Permelia Benedict. She was born in Coldwater, Mich., and is the mother of three children--Gertie, Belle, Emma Jean and Lulu May. Mr. Whitaker's farm is situated on section 28, and comprises 160 acres."
