Donald Henry Morasch of Riceville, Iowa died on October 27, 2011.

Mr. Morasch was born January 29, 1926 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Henry and Matilda Morasch. He attended Roosevelt Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from Oshkosh City High School with a war diploma. He was drafted into the U. S. Navy upon reaching his 18th birthday January 1944 and became a signalman in the U. S. Naval Armed Guard.

Following his discharge in 1946, he attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where he received a B. A. degree in business administration. In 1948, he was united in marriage to Frances Marie Bless of St. Ansgar, Iowa. She passed away of cancer in 1976. In 1978 he remarried Doris Edgar of Rock Falls, Iowa. She passed away of cancer June 11, 2000.

Mr. Morasch’s first teaching assignment was in the Fertile Independent School District located in Fertile, Iowa. After 3 years of teaching business education, he moved to the Riceville Independent School District in 1954 where he taught business subjects in high school and adult education. After receiving a graduate scholarship to attend the State College of Iowa (now UNI) in guidance counseling, he became a teacher-counselor, until his retirement in 1988.

His hobbies included coin collecting, oil painting, metal detecting, and collecting bottles. Fishing was his greatest joy having fished in Maine, Colorado, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arkansas, and Wyoming. His fishing experiences in Canada included Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec. He also enjoyed exploring many state parks in the Midwest.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra (Bruce) Hendrickson of Rochester, Minnesota; his son, Steven (Mary Jo) Morasch of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; grandchildren Heather (Jason) Steinkamp of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, Amy (Reid) Kruger of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ryan (Janice) Morasch of Gilbert, Arizona, and Lindsay (Ian) Kirk of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; three great-grandchildren Dekota and Madalyn Steinkamp, and Jaeda Morasch.

He was preceded in death by his mother Matilda (Weigandt) Morasch, his father Henry Morasch, his first wife Frances (Bless) Morasch, and his second wife Doris (Edgar) Morasch.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday, October 31, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville.

The Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, October 30, 2011, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville.

Burial will take place at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar. [Actually, St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Rock township.]

RICEVILLE, IOWA - Donald H. Morasch, 85, of Riceville, died on Thursday, October 27, 2011, at the Grand Meadow Healthcare Center in Grand Meadow, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Monday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dan Christensen officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Rock Township Cemetery in rural St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Friends may call on Monday two hours before services at the funeral home.
