PASSED TO THE OTHER LIFE THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 1925 – FUNERAL SERVICES FROM ST. ROSE’S CHURCH MONDAY MORNING, AT 10;30 O’CLOCK
Our community was inexpressibly saddened when the death of Mrs. Alphonsus J. Kelly was announced. Mrs. Kelly passed away in St. Joseph Hospital, at 11:15 o’clock Thursday night, March 19th, eight days after the birth of an infant daughter.
Catherine Dorsey, daughter of Mrs. And Mrs. Richard (Bridget) Dorsey, was born in Wilmington, Illinois, August 7, 1881.
Her parents moved to Osage, Iowa, in 1888. She gained her fundamental education in the public schools of Osage graduating from the High School of that city and later from the Sisters of Mercy Academy, of Charles City, Iowa. Miss Dorsey taught, very successfully, in the public schools of Osage for four years.
She was united in marriage with Alphonsus J. Kelly, of Wilmington township, June 20, 1906. Seven children were born of this union. They are Margaret, John, Joseph, James, Mary, Elizabeth and Agnes.
Mrs. Kelly is survived by her husband and seven children mentioned, her mother, Mrs. Richard Dorsey, four brothers; James Dorsey, of Wilmington; Frank, of Chicago; John, of Plymouth, Iowa; and William, of Osage, Iowa. There are two uncles; John Gavican, of Danville, Illinois; and James Gavican, of Peoria, Illinois.
Mrs. Kelly was a rarely beautiful Christian character, a regular communicant at St. Rose’s and ardently devoted to the teachings of her church. She was a lovable wife, a wonderful mother, and a most gracious and kindly friend and neighbor. Her early death comes as a personal grief to many in this community.
Funeral services were held from St. Rose’s Catholic Church Monday morning at 10:30 o’clock. Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated by the Rev. J. B. Murray assisted by the Rev. J. O’Sullivan, of Braidwood, as deacon, the Rev. G. A. Parker, pastor of Assumption Church, Coal City, sub deacon, and Rev. F. J. Magner, of Highwood, master of ceremonies.
Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
