Old Resident, Frank
Merrill, Passed Away
on Decoration Day

Frank Stephen Merrill, third child of Stephen and Eveline Merrill, was born October 8, 1840, in the village of Acton, Maine, and died May 30, 1924, at his home in Osage, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 22 days.

He spent his early life in Springvale, Maine, were his father was engaged in mercantile business. When a young man he went to Boston, where he lived, with the exception of a year or two spent in Seattle, until 1896, when he came to Osage to be near his father, who had moved west in 1871 and who was then in declining health.

June 14, 1899, he was united in marriage with Clara B. Tupper, with whom he had lived happily for nearly twenty-five years, and who survives him. One sister, Mrs. Abbie M. Walker, the oldest of the family is still living at the age of 87. There are also two nieces, Mrs. Evelyn Brown-Malone and Mrs. Clara Brown-Martin.

Frank Merrill's greatest assets, outside of his home life, were his friends. He was a man of a genial, kindly disposition, interested alike in old and young, rich and poor, and but to know him was to be his friend. He was a director of the Farmers National Bank of Osage and was able to attend their last meeting, although he had been in feeble health for some time.
