Walter Kapka

29 APR 1889 -- 17 NOV 1918

Walter Kapka, son of William Kapka and his wife, Elizabeth, was born on the 29th of April 1889, in Mitchell County, Iowa. His whole life was spent in our community where he was always regarded with respect because of his quiet and courteous demeanor.

On the 23rd of October, 1912, he was married to Lillian Volbrecht**, and since that time operated a farm south of Riceville.

About a week prior to his death, he became a victim of the Spanish influenza, which developed into pneumonia and on Sunday afternoon, about 5:30 he passed away. His wife and two children also suffering from the same disease, could not be present at his deathbed. His age was 29 years, 6 months and 18 days.

There remain to mourn his passing away, his wife, two daughters, his parents, seven brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Rudolph, were held Tuesday afternoon at the residence, and the body was laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery.
