August Ring 1869-1930

At 6:15 p.m. Monday, the lingering illness of August Ring terminated in death at his home near Riceville. Although not being in rugged health the past three years, he was able to be about in a wheel chair up to Friday, when he was taken to his bed seriously ill.

He was the son of Michael and Anna Ring of West Prussia, Germany. He was born on August 28, 1869, and died on December 29, 1930 at the age of 61 years, 4 months, and 1 day. At the age of seven years, he, with his parents, came to this country and settled near Chicago, Illinois.

Aboout ten years later he came to Iowa, where he has made his home since. Early in infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran faith, later renewing his vows through confirmation and remained a faithful member until death. His sincere faith was reflected in his daily life.

He was united in marriage on October 8, 1891 with Minnie Kliem. To this union were born ten children: Fred of Keene, New Hampshire; Emil and John of Riceville; Harry of Acme; Mrs. Walter Miller and Mrs. Fred Utesch, Jr. of east of Riceville; Lena, Clarence and Charlie at home. One son, August, died in infancy.

For the past 20 years he had made his home on his farm southeast of Riceville. He was a great lover of his family and will be sadly missed in the home circle. He leaves to mourn his departure a kind and loving wife; six sons; three daughters; three sisters: Mrs. Will Weers of Elma; Mrs. Albert Gehlman of Wenatchee, Washington; and Mrs. Bert Ley of Kellogg, Idaho; one brother, Fred of Spokane, Washington; and one half-brother, Carl Ring of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; besides a host of friends and relatives who will greatly miss him.

The funeral was held on Friday p.m. at the Lutheran church, with his pastor, Rev. Leckband, officiating, with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

The pallbearers were Ephriam Lebow, Ed Funte, Julius Kruge, Ben Kruger, Christ Lubbert, and Theodore Heller.
