William Hardy -- February 24, 1824—July 29, 1906

Friday, August 3, 1906 "Twice-A-Week Plain Dealer", Cresco, Howard County, Iowa

William Hardy was born in Tyrone County, Ireland, Feb. 12th, 1824. He came to America with his parents when two years old, and settled in New York where they lived fifteen years. His parents then moved to Ohio where he was married to Mary Hunter in January, 1848. In 1854 they moved to Illinois, where they lived one year, when they came to Chickasaw county, Iowa.

Here they lived three years, then moved to Howard county, near Florenceville, where they lived on a farm twenty-six years, then moved into Florenceville, where they lived five years; then moved to Riceville in 1889 and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. O.P. Yager (Margaret Jane) until they were called home.

Two sons and seven daughters were born to them. Those still living are Mrs. T.J. Cole (Della), Dell Rapids, S.D., Mrs. J.H. Becker (Josephine), William and Thomas Hardy, living on farms north of Cresco, Mrs. J.C. Webster (Della), Cresco, and Mrs. O.P. Yager, Riceville.
One daughter died at the age of twelve years (Margaret); one at twenty-six (Martha E.); Mrs. T.J. Carpenter (Mary) in Oct, 1900; his wife in Jan. 1901; and July 29th he peacefully fell asleep.

He was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church Jan. 18, 1903, of which he remained a consistent member until his death.

Mr. Hardy was an honorable man, a kind husband and father, a good neighbor and a true friend.

The funeral services for William Hardy who died July 29th, were held in Riceville, July 31st, conducted by his pastor, who preached from the text found in Rev. 14:13. Interment was in the Albion cemetery.
