DORA SCHMIDT

Funeral services for Dora Schmidt, age 105, will be Thursday, December 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. Reverend Norman E. Betke will officiate with burial in the Liberty Cemetery, Little Cedar. She died Saturday, December 9, 1984, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

Dora Schmidt was born in Germany on July 1, 1879. She was a housewife.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Ahlf of St. Ansgar; a brother, Willis Barenz of Osage; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 13, 1984, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, for Dorothea Barenz Winer Schmidt. Rev. Norman Betke officiated at the service, with burial at the Liberty Cemetery in Little Cedar, Iowa. She died on Sunday, December 9, 1984.

Dorothea Barenz Winer Schmidt was born July 14, 1879 in Darmstadt, Province of Hesse, Germany, the daughter of George and Christina Ann Garish Barenz. She was baptized in infancy in Germany.

She came to this country as a small child with her parents, who settled at Bailey, a small community which was near McIntire. They also lived at Little Cedar, where she grew up.

On October 4, 1897 she was united in marriage to Charles Winer and to this union two daughters, Lillian and Thelma, were born. Mr. Winer passed away in 1910. On October 22, 1912 she was united in marriage to Herman Schmidt. They lived on a farm north of St. Ansgar. At that time Mrs. Schmidt became a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church by adult confirmation.

She was a member of the Ladies Aid, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and at the time of her death was the oldest member of the congregation and an honorary member of the LWML.

Upon retirement, the Schmidts moved to St. Ansgar. Mrs. Schmidt made her home with her daughters until 1979 when she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center at St. Ansgar.

Survivors include her daughter, Thelma (Mrs. Edward Ahlf) of South Beloit, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren: Mrs. Mildred Young and Rudolph Schroeder of Osage, Virgil Schroeder of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Delores Duncan of Fridley, Minnesota, Gladys Ahlf of Osage, Mrs. Marilene Epsteen of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; Mrs. Adelene Flowers of South Beloit, Wisconsin; 17 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Willis Barenz of Osage; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Winer and her husband Herman Schmidt; her daughter, Lillian Schroeder; one grandchild, Doris Schultz and five great-grandchildren; also by six brothers and two sisters.
