76, Twice A Gold
Star Mother Died

Funeral services for Mrs. Olive Ormsby, 76, former resident of Osage who died at a Marshalltown rest home Tuesday morning, will be held Friday at 9 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Osage. Mrs. Ormsby died following a several-year illness from Parkinson's disease and complications.

The Rev. Robert Ormsby, Belmond, pastor and brother-in-law of the deceased will be in charge of the funeral mass. Arrangements are being made by C. R. Champion and Sons and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Olive Gertrude Grady was born June 30, 1888, in Monona, the daughter of Daniel and Mary A. Gleason Grady. She grew to adulthood there and as a young woman operated a grocery store in Ion, Iowa for about six years.

Her marriage to Thomas J. Ormsby took place June 29, 1918. They established their home on a farm near Woden, came to Little Cedar in 1929 to farm,and retired to their home on west Main in Osage.

As a Gold Star mother she was active in both the Auxilary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Auxiliary and remained active in both until her health began to fail. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic church and took active part in woman's work until 1964.

Her eldest son, Private First Class Virgil Ormsby, lost his life while serving in the infantry with the United States army in the Philippines, Feb. 24, 1945. Her son First Lieutenant Cletus Ormsby was a night fighter pilot and was lost over Germany March 24, 1945.

Others preceding her in death were her husband,Thomas, who died May 9, 1957; her parents, her four sisters and five brothers.

Surviving are one son, Everett of Marshalltown and seven grandchildren.
