MRS. CULVER DEAD
Expires Last Night at Ripe Age of 84 Years.
Died, Rhoda Jane Culver, on Nov. 10, 1901, at 5:10 o'clock p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Elwood in Waterloo, Iowa, at the ripe old. age of 84 years, 3 months and 12 days.
Mrs. Culver's maiden name was Rhoda Jane Cornise. She was born in Otsego County, New York, July 28, 1817, and was married to Herman Culver in Chautauqua County, New York, September 5, 1838, with whom she came to Iowa in 1855, settling in Chickasaw County. Her husband died at Osage, January 17, 1889.
She is survived by one son, Captain C. H. Culver, residing at Chetek, Wisconsin, and six daughters, as follows: Mrs. Ellen Lovelace of Osage, Iowa; Mrs. Rose Bird of Nilesville, Iowa; Mrs. Abbie Kellogg of Charles City, Iowa; Mrs. Mary J. Elwood, Mrs. Hattie E. Billings and Mrs. Dora M. Graham of this city.
Grandma Culver, as she was known by her friends, lived a useful and busy life. She was always of a cheerful and happy disposition. Her heart was filled with love for everybody and everything. She saw only the good, the true and the beautiful in life. For the past year she had been feeble and confined to her bed most of the time, but suffered no pain and her passing away was emblematic of her life — peaceful and serene.
The funeral will be private. The burial will be at Osage by the side of her husband, Tuesday, November 12, 1901.
