Leo Hartwig 1897-1985
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 29, 1985 for Leo Hartwig, 87, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, who died on Friday, April 26, 1985 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. Rev. Richard Zellmer assisted by Rev. Elmer Jacobs officiated at St. John's Lutheran of Rock Township with burial in St. John's cemetery.
Leo Hartwig was born on November 28, 1897 to Christian and Minnie Dieterich Hartwig in Cedar township of Mitchell County. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church and continued to be a member there the rest of his life.
On September 4, 1921, he was united in marriage to Anna Bethke at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. They established their home ona farm until retirement in 1979 when they moved to St. Ansgar.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, his parents and two brothers.
He is survived by three daughters; Mrs. William (Jeanette) Neuman of St. Ansgar, Mrs. William (Lucille) Scharper of Osage, Mrs. Lee (Lois Ann) Dutcher of Manly; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Bless of St. Ansgar and Mrs. Esther Groth of Austin, Minnesota; one brother, Paul Hartwig, of St. Ansgar.
