Memorial rites for Merle E. Loiler, DVM, 66, of Osage were held Monday afternoon at the Champion Funeral Home. Dr. Loiler died April 18, at his home here. The Reverend Jack Speer, pastor of the United Methodist Church, was in charge of the rites.
Merle Elliott Loiler was born March 10, 1914, in Sidney, Iowa, the son of Roy A. and Blanche Loiler. He was united in marriage to Allene Pierce of Osage December 26, 1936.
Dr. Loiler was a graduate of the University of Iowa College at Veterinary Medicine in Ames and was a veteran of service in World War II, serving in India. He served as assistant state veterinarian in Oregon; food inspector in Chicago with the United States Army; and the past 15 years he spent working for the United States Department of Agriculture in animal and plant health inspection service until his retirement in 1977. He and his wife retired to Osage in 1979.
Survivors include his wife Allene; one son, Warren R. Loiler of St. Paul; one sister, Dorothy Saxton of Napa, California; and one granddaughter, Polly Loiler of St. Paul.
