Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 19, 1985, at Champion Funeral Home for Arleigh McFarland, 64, of Osage, who died on Wednesday, October 23, 1985, at an Iowa City hospital. The Rev. Alvin Jungst of Iowa City officiated and burial was in the Little Cedar Cemetery. Military rites were performed by Osage Legion Post 278.
Mr. McFarland was born on January 29, 1921 in Bertha, Minnesota, to Orvis Guy and Hazel (Adams) McFarland. When he was ten, his family moved to Mitchell County where he attended school. He served in the Army from 1941-1946 and served in the China-India-Burma Campaign during World War II.
He and Alice Eva Adams were united in marriage on March 13, 1946. The couple lived in Osage where Mr. McFarland was a truck driver and a welder and also worked for L.R. Falk in St. Ansgar for 40 years. He retired in April.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Osage; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Phyllis) Johnson of Austin, Minnesota; two sons, Franklin of Osage and Kem of Colorado; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Fama Lovejoy of Osage and Mrs. Robert (Gladys) Vokaty of Charles City, Iowa.
