Funeral services for Mrs. Glen (Christine) Gast, 86, who died Thursday, August 23, 1984, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage were Monday, August 27 at 2 p.m., at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa. Reverend Paul Metzger officiated at the service with burial in the Rock Creek Cemetery, rural Osage.

Christine Bahnsen was born March 15, 1898, near Rock Falls, the daughter of Christian and Margaretha (Wohlert) Bahnsen. She was baptized in Clarence, Iowa and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Nora Springs. She attended rural public schools.

On November 3, 1921 she was united in marriage to Glen Gast at Rock Creek Lutheran parsonage. They made their home on a farm for many years.

In November of 1981 she became a resident of Faith Lutheran Home of Osage where she resided until her death.

Surviving are her son, Birney of Osage; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jack of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Hans of Menomonie, Wisconson, William (Butch) of Riceville and Ralph of Nora Springs; three sisters, Margaret Paulson of Marshalltown, Bertha Deckard of Cross Lake, Minnesota and Mrs. Art (Linda) Troge of rural Osage.

GAST, Christina Augusta (Bahnsen) 1898-

Christine Augusta Bahnsen was born on March 15, 1898 at Wyoming, Jones, Iowa to Christian Carsten Bahnsen and Margaretha Wolhert Broderson. She had nine siblings: Carsten John, John H., Margaret Christine, Bertha, Hans H, William C., Lynda Louise, Harold C. and Ralph Edwin.

Found Christina in the 1900 and 1915 censuses at Falls, Cerro Gordo, Iowa living with her parents:
1900: Chris C Bahnsen 33, Maggie Bahnsen 31, Cass John Bahnsen 8, John H Bahnsen 6, Maggie Bahnsen 4, Christine Bahnsen 2, Babey Bahnsen 0/12, Volkand Collie 21.

1915: Christine Bahnsen, age 16.

Found in the 1905, 1910 censuses living at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa (which is the same farmsite as the 1900 and 1915 censuses):

1910: Chris Bahnsen 42, Margaret Bahnsen 40, Carsten Bahnsen 18, John Bahnsen 16, Margaret Bahnsen 14, Christina Bahnsen 12, Bertha Bahnsen 9, Hans Bahnsen 8, William Bahnsen 6, Lynda Bahnsen 3.

She married Glen Arthur Gast on November 3, 1921 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

They had 2 sons:
Wallace Leroy (born August 3, 1924 Nora Springs, Floyd, Iowa, died August 17, 1943 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa) and Birney Bryce Gast (born November 9, 1927 Nora Springs, Floyd, Iowa, married December 26, 1949 at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, died September 13, 2011 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa).

Family found in the 1925 and 1930 censuses at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. 1925, farming:
1925: Elen (should be Glen)A Gast 25, Cristena A Gast 26, Wallace L. Gast.

1930: Glen A. Gart (should be Gast) 30, Christine A. Gart 31, Wallace L Gart 5, Birney B Gart 2 5/12, Bert Payne 21, Fred Zastrow 28.

Christina died Aug 23, 1984 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa.

On November 3, 1921 she was united in marriage to Glen Gast at Rock Creek Lutheran parsonage, Meroa, Iowa. They made their home on a farm for many years. After Glen's death, she moved to a house in Osage, Iowa. In November of 1981, she became a resident of Faith Lutheran Home of Osage where she resided until her death.
